Frequently Asked Questions about Metal Fabrication Pricing in Nottingham

  • Do you charge for quotes and site visits?

No — site visits and quotations are completely free. If you have provided good photos or videos James will use that to provide you with a provisional quote to ensure you have a realistic expectation of cost prior to visiting. If the provisional quote is acceptable James will visit your property, take accurate measurements and discuss your options before providing a written quote. There is no obligation to proceed.

  • Why do prices vary so much for the same product?

Everything we make is bespoke. A driveway gate for a 3-metre opening in flat bar with a primer and paint finish will cost significantly less than a 5-metre set of bi-fold gates with composite infill panels and automated openers. The guide prices on this page reflect the simplest version of each product — the site visit is where we establish what your project actually requires.

  • Are materials included in your prices?

Yes — for all supply and install work, materials are included in the quoted price. For mobile welding call-outs, any additional materials required on site (such as welding rod, wire or gas) are charged at cost if not already included in the agreed scope.

  • Do I need planning permission for gates or railings?

In most cases, no. Gates and railings under 1 metre in height adjacent to a highway, or under 2 metres elsewhere on your property, typically fall within permitted development rights and do not require planning permission. However, if your property is in a conservation area or is listed, different rules apply and permitted development rights may be restricted. We will flag anything worth checking during the site visit, but always recommend confirming with your local planning authority if you are in any doubt.

  • How long does fabrication take?

Lead times vary with current workload and project complexity. Smaller jobs such as a single gate or a short railing run are typically ready within two to three weeks of order confirmation. Larger or more complex projects may take longer — we will give you an honest estimate at the quotation stage and keep you updated throughout.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer (BACS) and debit or credit card. For larger projects a deposit is required on order confirmation, with the balance due on completion. Full payment terms are outlined in your quotation before any work begins.

  • Do you cover areas outside Nottingham?

Yes — we cover the wider Nottinghamshire area as standard, including Beeston, West Bridgford, Carlton, Arnold, Hucknall and Long Eaton. We also take on projects further afield across the East Midlands. Mobile welding call-outs outside our standard area may incur a travel supplement — contact us to confirm coverage for your location.
